Welcome to the Monifieth

A sea swim in the River Tay estuary

 

Age Limits: Junior Category – 12 years to 16 years in the year of the swim

                 Senior Category – 17 years and over in the year of the swim 

Date of Swim: Sunday 3rd August 2008 at 15.30 hours

Distance: 3.25 Miles Tide Assisted: From Monifieth, via the RNLI jetty, to the YAABA pier Broughty Ferry Harbour.
 

Parking: (Free) Please park your car on the road adjacent to the start at the slipway and adventure park. Please do not block the roadway. Swimmers should park (free) at the YAABA pier at Beach Crescent, Broughty Ferry and arrange transport to Monifieth.  Transport by boat is not permissible.
 

Briefing: Conducted on the slipway at Monifieth at 15.15 hours, while the boats are sailing down.


Start
: On the Starters/Referees instruction, Swimmers should promptly access the water via the slipway, and form a line facing upriver. Start will be by loud hailer.


Course
: This is a tidally assisted, point-to-point, straight-line up-river course using the flooding flow of the river, with a slight bend around the Castle point, touch & turn back downriver at the RNLI jetty.  Please follow your boat at all times.


Finish:
By touching the south west corner of the YAABA pier. N.B. A swimmer finishing, but missing the “touch” in tidal conditions will be accorded a certificate but no official time or place in the race.


Presentation: Will be at the YAABA clubhouse on completion of the juvenile 300m dash. The annual trophy awards are –
