Welcome to the Kirkton of Balmerino

A sea swim in the River Tay estuary

 

 

 

Age Limits: Junior Category – 12 years to 16 years in the year of the swim

                 Senior Category – 17 years and over in the year of the swim

Date of Swim: Saturday 12th July 2008 at 11.20 hours.

 

Distance: 8 Miles Tide Assisted: From Balmerino to Broughty Ferry Harbour .

 

Parking: (Free) To minimise congestion on private property at Balmerino we require to maximise people to vehicles; if possible please meet on the Phibbies pier not later than14.00.

 

PARKING ARRANGEMENTS AT BALMERINO WILL BE ADVISED LATER, BUT

NO VEHICLES TO BE LEFT AT BALMERINO DURING THE SWIM. 

  

Briefing: Will take place at the Balmerino start, on the beach at 11.00 hours on the day.

 

Start: On the Starters/Referees instruction, Swimmers should promptly enter the water from the pebble beach east of the houses and form a line facing downriver.  Start will be by loud hailer.

 

Course: This is a tidally assisted, point-to-point down-river swim using the ebbing flow of the river, on a straight-line course in 3 defined sections:- Beach to any high span of Rail Bridge , Rail Bridge to Main Channel Span of the Road Bridge , and Road Bridge to Broughty Ferry Harbour , YAABA Pier.

 

N.B. The swimmer must start to cross the river as soon as they pass under the road bridge.

 

Finish: By touching the South West corner of the YAABA pier. N.B. A swimmer finishing, but missing the “touch” in tidal conditions will be accorded a certificate but no official time or place in the race.

 

Presentation: At the YAABA clubhouse upon completion of the event.

In addition to the annual awards 1st, 2nd & 3rd place finishers in each category will be awarded a YAABA medal. All finishers will received a personalized certificate.
